“The light shines in the darkness,
but the darkness has not understood it.” (1)
If they stay in the dark cave too long,
might they lose their sight?
Might they lose their cognitive faculty?
Might they not want to do anything?

Don’t you comprehend Christmas,
that the light comes and shines in the darkness?
The light does not intend to embarrass you.
He does not want to judge your faults, but
to help you understand yourself and all of us,
to show you the way out of the dark cave.
Don’t you desire to comprehend the light?

“The light shines in the darkness, and
the darkness did not overcome it.” (2)
Those who love the dark cave,
they have hated and attacked the light.
Might they be uncomfortable revealing their hidden selves?
Might they be anxious about exposing their evil lives? (3)

The darkness could not win against the light.
The crucifixion could not remove it.
Imperial powers of the dark cave could not conquer it.
Religious dogmas, rules, and powerful institutions,
they could not eliminate the light shining in the darkness
for the light gives new and fresh life to the people,
for the light is love, life-creating love. (4)
