I called you to give eternal life;
I met you to be your friend;
my steps to the crucifixion were my love for you.
You are now my friends
if you accept my love;
you walk with me when I call you.
Friend!
We are patient, kind, faithful to each other in every situation;
we never take delight in evil’s world
yet we rejoice with the truth from heaven together.(1)
Friend!
We understand, recognize and accept each other;
we always trust, respect, love each other
because we are friends.
I no longer call you servants;
instead, I call you friends
for you and I understand each other very well.
I lay down my life for my friends.
How can there be greater love than this?
Now, love each other as I have loved you.
